the Great Global Warming Swindle
Did anyone see that programme on Channel 4 the other week called the Great Global Warming Scandal?
Apparently one of the Scientists who appeared on the programe (an Oceanographer) said he was misrepresented on the programme as being a denyer that global warming was due to the activities of man. When he was being filmed making his comments he thought it was for a programme that simply discussed how global warming was a very complicated issue, not that he denied it was caused by man.
Despite the questionable techniques of the Director of this programme, it had a valid question to ask: is the increase in temperature caused by the increase in carbon dioxide, or is the increase in carbon dioxide caused by an increase in temperature?
I think this question deserves a considered answer from the majority of scientists who argue that it is all our fault that the temperatures are rising. Unfortunately we are now in a climate where it is now not politically correct to deny it is anything to do with Man.
I think we need an answer before people get more and more suspicious that the whole issue is just an excuse to levy more and more taxes.
You've got a friend - the AA advert
This advert has grown on me the more I watch it, it makes me feel really mushy and sentimental.
I think as far as adverts go, this one's up there with the best and it pushes all the right buttons. In fact it's so good I might just buy the company!
Here it is in it's entirety:
The land that time forgot - I've been there.
I dropped my car off for servicing at my local Volkswagen dealer yesterday. A cheerful, helpful lot they are, they offered to give me a lift into the town centre. However, needing to lose a bit of weight and a few kilograms of carbon emissions, I decided to walk. However the route to the train station was by no means a breeze. It is more like a concrete jungle, a mishmash of flyovers, busy roads, pedestrian bridges where it seems like you have to go miles just to get to the other side of the road, plus not so savoury industrial estates. My route took me along rarely used dodgy looking footpaths that I would not even consider going on without an armed guard at night time. Some of the places I walked past were places that I have driven past thousands of times in the past, but it was only now that I noticed the rubbish caused by fly tippers, the unkempt grass, the filth, the school kids smashing glass bottles and spraying paint cans, the seediness of it all. This is the land that time has forgotton. The underbelly of the city that never gets cleaned. It reminded me a little of the film Bladerunner, which is set far into the future. The ultra modern cities have ultra modern technology and flashy buildings, but there is alot of squalor and crime at the same time. When I first saw the film I thought it was the most realistic prediction of what life would be like in the future. It looks like I'm not going to be far wrong.
NTL - consistently worst for customer satisfaction - according to Which.
I had to ring up NTL twice to tell them to stop sending me mailings about their 3 in one package for £30 per month. Out of principle, I will not sign up to any company for anything, if they see it fit to send me a letter nearly every week begging me to sign up to their broadband. They must be desperate for business. Besides, Which On Line have stated that NTL consistently come bottom of the league for customer satifaction when it comes to broadband services. 'Avoid this company' they say. It's not often that Which will actually say avoid something.
Despite successfuly stopping them sending me letters, I still get the general junk mail leaflets from them which are not addressed to any particular person. Grrrrr! I reckon that if they drastically reduced their mailings, they could use the spare cash to actually do their job properly.
By the way, when it comes to broadband service, I think that small is beautiful. I have had two suppliers so far that have been small independent companies and have had no bother with them. I am currently with Eclipse Internet. I get 3.5 meg (rate adaptive), and 2 Gigabytes per month which suits me, all for £15 per month and no down time.
Are you scared??
In one of my last blogs, entitled muslim full face veil ban, I expressed my opinions on the news article about the muslim school girl, who lost her appeal against the school banning her from wearing a full face veil. Suprisingly I only got one comment on the blog. Now, there may be several reasons why you didn't reply to this blog. The main one being of course that you did not actually read it (fair enough); or perhaps if you did read it, you just were not interested, or you were interested but you were on your way out somewhere or had a promise on. It's not that I think anyone in this community should have any excuse for not replying, but please o please, don't let it be true that you did not reply because you were scared to get involved. People should feel free to speak their minds, and not be influenced by the actions of the more extreme members of the Islam faith who burn effigys and threaten people with death. These extremists have won when they silence all opposition to their views and ways of doing things.
