A canoist John Darwin went missing presumed drowned over 5 years ago when his smashed up Kayak was found on a Hartlepool beach near his home. His family had assumed he was dead, but in the absence of a body they were unable to grieve, including his wife who eventually emigrated to Australia. You might imagine what the family has been through, unable to have closure. Then suddenly this weekend he turned up fit and well at a Police station in London; his two sons collected him after he was pronounced ok by a doctor and psychiatrist.
What conclusions can be drawn? Was it an accident, or was it staged for some reason?
