The lamb lies down at Malham

by astronut @ Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2008 - 09:19:45 am

Hi there,

Now that the novelty of my MP3 player has worn off a bit, I thought I would blog about the walk that I went on this Sunday gone. I went with my Spice group for a 'Malham Meander'. It was a good day, but tempered by a sad lamb near the end. For those that have not been to Malham, it has a magnificent limestone edifice at Malham Cove that is essentially a sheer cliff that people used to abseil from, but that has been banned due to the presence of rare birds nesting there. We went up over the hills, to Malham Tarn, and then descended towards the top of the cliff where you can walk across the strange rock formation caused by millions of years of rock erosion. However before that I saw a lamb hiding behind a rock, bleating, and it's mother was no where to be seen. I reckon it must have been in a bit of a state because it allowed me to stroke it, and it was trembling. I really felt sorry for it. The thought crossed my mind that I could take it home and put it in my back garden to keep the grass down, however I thought it might look really dodgy walking through Malham with a lamb in my arms, and besides the farmer might come after me with his shotgun. So I had to leave it there, and when I got back to the village I reported it to the visitors centre. They said that they would inform the farmer who does his rounds looking for injured animals. Any way, that made me feel a bit better about it, having to leave the poor lamb there.

this is a link to a really good website showing pictures of the area, including the Cove.

bland postings and comments

by astronut @ Sunday, Apr. 06, 2008 - 09:10:48 am

Well, I guess that if you want someone to comment on your blog, one should avoid doing posts on Friday or Saturday night, or any where near those times. The response to my Land Rover blog was posted at just the wrong time when all you fellow bloggers are busy going out for the night or watching telly. Or perhaps my posting was just so 'bland' that your fingers did not receive an impulse from your brain to even so much as twitch over your keyboard.

Well any way, it's Sunday morning now, I have decided to go to one of my 'local' buddhist centres. I say 'local' because it is actually in Pocklington near York, nearly and hours drive away. But I could have been going to one in Southampton, so in my eyes, near York is local.

I have been busy putting tunes on my MP3 player from my computer and I am really pleased with it. I am slowly but surely getting to grips with using play lists and drag and drop menus in Windows Media Player, although it can be a bit of a drag sometimes.

Any way, I'll let you know how I get on today in my next blog. See you later.

Land Rovers: a vote of confidence - not.

Hello there, in a car park I saw this Land Rover, and I came to the conclusion that the owner is not entirely satisfied with it. I happened to have my camera with me and could not resist taking a shot of it.

My Mp3 player - a question

by astronut @ Thursday, Apr. 03, 2008 - 09:23:33 am

Hi there,

I got my MP3 player the other day, it's a Sony and its a wonderful piece of kit; it also plays video and shows photographs, although the screen is not really big enough to watch a film, although it would be ok to watch short clips. I am having great fun putting my CD's onto it, and I will have a go at downloading some tracks from the internet.

Just one question: I know I might find the answer to this on the Sony site somewhere, but I'm lazy at the moment, so I thought I would ask my friends:

I am using Windows Media Player to transfer music to the Walkman, and there is a drag and drop system. However when I drag and drop a particular album into the 'synchronise' box and then click on 'synchronise', the Walkman then proceeds to download all the other albums on my computer, plus all the photos. I don't what this to happen, I only want to transfer the albums I want to, and nothing else. Any comments?

ps have tried altering the synchronising settings but it won't let me.
