There is an article on the news advising that there is a chance we may have a heatwave this summer, with temperatures possibly rising to over 30 degrees c. The article advises all sorts of tips to cool down including painting your house white believe it or not. I did check the date of the article to make sure it had not been written on April 1st.... ![]()

Yes I know, but I think it's quite funny that in this country the authorities are suggesting that we should follow suit! I certainly would not dream of painting my house white for the benefit of a few days of really hot weather; in fact I would be saying 'bring it on'!
Actually, I was just thinking that for the rest of the time when it's cooler, i might just paint my house black to absorb all the heat....

Yes I know, us Brits seem to get into a flap if there is any sort of strong weather for a while. If it's really hot and sunny for more than a couple of days it's called a heat wave and we are all advised to take cover indoors, smother ourselves in factor 50 suncream, drink 10 litres of cold water a day and paint our houses white.

A couple of weekends ago, I put up a layer of window tinting on my bedroom windows, the kind used for limousines. Some years ago I had put up some tinting that was made for recreational vehicles. After several years, it was starting to peel, so I put limo tinting up to replace it. The RV window tinting made a difference in the summer; the limo tinting is a lot darker, so it should make even more difference. Assuming we actually get any warm weather; today, it snowed most of the day, with a high of 3°C...

Does the tinting make the room warmer in the winter?
